New Jersey Releases 2025 Disability and Family Leave Amounts

New Jersey has announced the 2025 contribution rates and benefit level parameters for the Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) and Family Leave Insurance (FLI) programs. The updates compared to 2024 are as follows:

Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) for 2025

TDI provides benefits to eligible New Jersey workers who cannot work due to non-job-related illness, injury, or disability, including certain public health emergencies.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Worked 20 weeks, earning at least $303 per week (Base Week Amount), or

  • Earned a combined total of $15,200 (Alternative Earnings Test) in the four quarters prior to taking leave.

Benefit Details:

  • Weekly benefit: 85% of average weekly wage, capped at $1,081.

  • Payable for up to 26 weeks within a 52-week period.

  • 7-day waiting period applies, except for certain public health emergencies.

For 2025, employees will contribute 0.23% of wages up to the Taxable Wage Base (Employee) of $165,400, with a maximum contribution of $380.42.

Family Leave Insurance (FLI) for 2025

FLI provides benefits to New Jersey workers for:

  1. The first 12 months following the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child, or

  2. Caring for a seriously ill family member.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Worked 20 weeks, earning at least $303 per week (Base Week Amount), or

  • Earned a combined total of $15,200 (Alternative Earnings Test) in the four quarters prior to taking leave.

Benefit Details:

  • Weekly benefit: 85% of average weekly wage, capped at $1,081.

  • Payable for up to 12 consecutive weeks in a 12-month period, or 8 weeks (56 days) intermittently.

Employees will contribute 0.33% of wages up to the Taxable Wage Base (Employee) of $165,400, with a maximum contribution of $545.82.
